Dear International Students, friends and colleagues,
My name is Ding Ma. I come from the regional council of South Karelia and also I’m a master student here at the university. First of all, on behalf of the regional council and the city of Lappeenranta, I would like to congratulate you for your successful exchange period at LUT this autumn.
Time flies! I still remember like yesterday hosting the Jetlag-event at the city hall, where we welcomed you to our city in the late summer. The warm late summer has now changed into snow-white winter. The lake Saimaa, where you can swim is now frozen and you can walk on it.
I believe many of you have travelled over thousands of miles, away from your family, your friends and came to this new environment, out of your comfort zone. I hope that you have enjoyed your time here, learnt about the local culture, made new friends and maybe also studied some new topics.
I recall my exchange period as one of the best moments in my life. When a bunch of young people from all over the world came together, it felt special and it was a true global village.
While you are packing for your return, please remember to take a piece of souvenir from Finland with you. Chocolate, textile or handcraft, but most importantly the memories of beautiful Finland and Saimaa. You are our brand ambassadors at home country to spread the messages through you excitement and stories here! We count on you!
Welcome back any time, to visit the fortress and harbor of Lappeenranta, the Skinnarila campus and the Saimaa nature! We hope to see you again and please take the slogan of LUT with you on your future journeys: Stay curious, be passionate and a have strong will!
